Featured Stay: The Columns Hotel

Welcome to one of the most unique and elegant hotels this side of the Mississippi. Located in the Garden District of New Orleans, Louisiana, this place oozes class and elevated southern gothic charm. The Columns Hotel is one of the epic homes in the area that has been restored into a hotel by a local family. Dirty Lover Band and I had the chance to stay here for a show weekend in the city so loads of thanks to the managers and owners for having us. Keep reading until the end for my review and even a ghost story or two.

Rooms

After checking in, you will be guided to your suite up the original mahogany staircase on the second or third floors. We stayed in room 10 on the second floor. Immediately I was struck by the 15 foot ceilings, eclectic vintage furnishings, and the SMELL! It was heavenly and I felt like I just entered my old money aesthetic dream.

This extravagant, Grand Chamber Suite overlooked the street cars passing by on St Charles Avenue below while gently jazz streamed through the radio placed on the bureau. They thought of everything including the Aesop toiletries, soft Parachute Towels, and free bottle of wine. After checking in and setting up my Royce and Rocket luggage, we headed down to their restaurant for lunch!

On the third floor, our friend’s room was room 19. Here are a few pics from that room which was a Petite Chamber Suite. While a little smaller and in the attic, the air conditioning is cold, there are great modern accessories and had a vintage inspired tile all over the bath.

Royce and Rocket Castle Classic luggage with shelves. Prices vary on rooms. This Petite Suite (as seen in the pics) start around $250 a night while the Premier Avenue Suite is more like $500 a night. It is a luxury property with unmatched location, classiness and over all experience. The food is to die for and the cocktail list does not disappoint.

Restaurant and Bar

I am just gonna preface this part of the Columns with a note for anyone who is interesting in visiting the hotel without booking a room. You can experience the Columns at their on site coffee shop + flower shop, lunch + dinner menu, and moody cocktail bar in the lobby.

Amenities

Literally the only thing this place is missing is a pool. It would be so refreshing to take a dip on those hot Louisianna days. But the amenities you have access to are pretty dang cool without the pool. There is a large second floor balcony, free coffee in the parlor (aside from the shop below), a billiards room, and side gardens. Join ‘em on select Sundays and Mondays for intimate singer songwriter experiences with local and visiting artists in the ballroom.

The Big Easy is full of jazz music, creole culture, and epic historic mansions from the 1700-1800’s. Click here to book your stay at the Columns hotel! And thanks for reading about my Featured Stay: The Columns Hotel. Check out more unique hotels to add to your bucket this on my Stays Blog here!
