Nashville Boutique Hotel Guide: Noelle

“It’s a town full of wild animals and lovely people.” That’ what they say about the Noelle anyways. During my staycation content trip for Royce and Rocket Luggage (thanks girls!), after attending events here as press for Go to Nashville, I can attest that this is one of the best hotels in Nashville. The Noelle is for “adventurers seeking a true Nashville encounter”. If this is the encounter you crave when you book a hotel, keep reading this Nashville Boutique Hotel Guide on the Noelle.

The hotel is located right on 4th St downtown, just a 5 minute walk to Broadway. The lot was was originally purchased by the Noel family in 1854 by private auction from the original landowners who subdivided post Revolutionary War. The hotel was then built in 1929 by brothers, John and Oscar Noel, hence the tribute to the current name of the building.

Noel Hotel opened on January 6, 1930 at a time when downtown Nashville was experiencing a boom with new hotels and department stores on nearly every corner. The 12-story, 250-room luxury hotel was the tallest building in Nashville and boasted the most state-of-the-art technologies for that time period. In it’s early years, The Noel hotel was host to numerous celebrity guests including Eleanor Roosevelt, Babe Ruth, Roy Rogers, and Jayne Mansfield.

They temporarily closed her doors as a hotel in September of 1972 when it was Hamilton Bank. The property was eventually purchased back in 2014 with the goal of returning the building to its original use. Which stands today!

As you enter their lobby, you are greeted by the most glamorous, art deco space with restored terrazzo floors, original brass hardware and soft pink Tennessee granite walls. The Trade Room Bar, which serves cocktails in a lounge style setting, is just up the stairs to the right. To the left, the lobby includes the front desk and a gift shop. The Keep Shop features luxury items from local artisans including boots, bolo ties, and other brands I love like Planet Cowboy and Bowen Bootwear.

After checking in, you’ll head down a long hallway to the elevator to the rooms. Along with the “Nashvillian of Note” art lining the walls, depicting over 100 lesser-known Nashville artists, you will also find Great Blue Herons on each floor… These TN native birds were once featured in a local newspaper urging the good folks of Nashville not to try to keep the herons as pets because they are indeed “wild animals.” And this inspired the current design for the rest of the hotel. Here is a quote from their site…

We like to think the blue heron truly embodies the spirit of the people of Nashville. As you spend any time here, you will realize something special that lies below the surface of this creative city – the people – they’re wild animals. They may seem tame on the outside, but deep down there is a spirit inside each and every Nashvillian that likes to get a little rowdy from time to time, is fiercely loyal, and isn’t afraid to go toe to toe with a challenge.

Rooms

The rooms are clean and simple, the beds are comfortable, and the light in the bathroom is just right for getting ready for an evening on the town. I was impressed by the room art and electric shades for morning (blackout necessary for the epic Nashville hangover) and evening light. But don’t expect any kind of views from the windows lol.

If you don’t take your breakfast in bed, head downstairs for a few different bars and restaurants. Drug Store Coffee can serve up any latte you can dream of whilst the crackling of a vintage vinyl spins in the corner. Before dinner, you can either head up to their rooftop bar, Rare Bird, or speakeasy in the basement, appropriately named Hidden Bar.
